Abstract

This article aims to analyze the work "The Orphaned Swimming Pool", by John Updike (1932-2019), was an American author, literary critic, poet and winner of several awards, among them, two Pulitzer Prizes with the series "The Rabbit", published in January 1970 in "The New Yorker", loaded with metaphors that explore American society of the 1970s, their customs, political, sexual, religious and cultural convictions, from the Turnerneighborhood and the couple's pool, as well as their interactions with their neighbors, as well as other possibilities for analyzing the work.He has also authored famous works such as "The Witches of Eastwick", "The Poorhouse Fair", "Couples" and "Brazil", one of his most controversial works. Currently in Brazil there is no translation for this work.
