Abstract

Physiotherapy can bring benefits with regard to the prevention of falls in the elderly. Falls in the elderly are a common and important problem that can have devastating consequences for individuals and their families. The present study is a narrative review. Data collection was performed through Google Scholar virtual libraries; AND VHL. The literature search covers the months of August to December 2021. Physiotherapists play a very important role in preventing falls in the elderly through instruction in physical activity, stretching, muscle strengthening, gait and balance training that seek to maintain or improve functional capacity and reduce disabilities and limitations. The role of the physical therapist is to work with the interdisciplinary team and investigate the possible causes of falls, working holistically to address the issues, performing a diagnostic analysis and then prescribing therapeutic measures. Falls still have consequences that affect independence in the elderly, especially fractures, fear and need to fall Help with activities of daily living. The occurrence of falls is the result of the complex relationship between its different risk factors and has multifactorial characteristics. Physiotherapy to prevent falls in the elderly includes physical activity, assessment of the daily living environment and risk assessment. Residents as far as possible, others outside the environment where the elderly stay longer.
