AMFEPRAMONE AND FENPROPOREX: INDISCRIMINATE USE OF ANORECTICS AND ITS CONSEQUENCES

This article sought to describe the pharmacological properties of amfepramone and fenproporex and their adverse effects, pointing out the consequences of indiscriminate use and the main reasons that promote indiscriminate use, showing the importance of the pharmacist in dispensing these drugs. This study is characterized as an integrative literature review based on the Google Scholar, PubMed, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) platforms. Anfepramone and fenproporex are among the most used anorectics in the treatment of obesity. This class of drugs has been the alternative for many people who seek to lose weight quickly, however the indiscriminate use of these psychotropics can pose considerable risks to the patient's health, so it is necessary to guide health professionals in the correct use of these drugs. It is understood that the indiscriminate use of amfepramone and fenproporex bring complications to the individual's health, which can be attributed to the media influence and the search for the "perfect body".
