The literacy and initial reading processes provide opportunities for the development of reading, which is deepened with several texts in the teaching-learning process of the initial grades. In the learning of the initial series, the comic book is strengthened as a didactic resource that facilitates the development of reading. The general objective of this study is to discuss the potential of comics as a didactic resource in the development of reading in students of the initial series. This study qualifies as a bibliographic research. The relevance of this study lies in the importance of seeking pedagogical practices and teaching resources that facilitate the development of reading in the teaching-learning process. The use of comics as a didactic resource in the teaching-learning process of the Portuguese language in the initial grades includes pedagogical practices that bring school learning closer to the world experienced by children, so it is necessary to observe didactics and playfulness in teaching strategies .
