The research consists of an integrative review of 8 articles selected from the Virtual Health Library with the objective of identifying the knowledge of the elderly about the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The analysis of the reviewed articles showed that there is a lack of knowledge about treatment, risk factors, transmission and prevention of HIV among the elderly. It is concluded that due to the lack of knowledge, the elderly have risk attitudes that make them susceptible to HIV infection and that health education aimed at this public, in addition to promoting the breaking of taboos regarding their sexuality, is of paramount importance. for the enrichment of knowledge and consequent prevention about HIV for the elderly
