In recent years, an increase in the incidence of diabetes mellitus in children has been observed. In this age group, irregular activities, difficulty in identifying symptoms, eating patterns, constitute barriers that children cannot overcome alone, thus, treatment largely depends on family members. The present work is justified from the intention of bringing greater visibility to the theme and its object is to investigate diabetes mellitus in childhood. In addition, it aims to analyze how this reflects the health and treatment of these children. This is a bibliographic research based on scientific articles, websites, books and magazines on the subject, by authors such as Maraschin et al., (2009), Gross et al. (2002), Gabbay et al., 2002), among others.
