Endodontic treatment has the ability to boost the repair made by the body itself of the periapical tissues after therapeutic intervention, in this way, the dental element is able to have its function restored after having suffered a traumatic injury. Recently, one of the most addressed guidelines within endodontics is the treatment of pulp necrosis with or without apical periodontitis, in a single session. The choice between single or multiple sessions has become a quality criterion for endodontists. The use of modern equipment and new techniques, such as: magnification (magnification of the image), electronic foraminal locators and mechanized devices using NiTi files, reduced the treatment session time. The present work aims to, through a literature review, discuss the scientific evidence on treatment techniques performed in a single session or multiple sessions in the field of endodontics. It is up to the dentist to plan and determine which technique will be most appropriate for the pathology he will treat, the consultation time, clinical experience and available instruments.
