PERFORMANCE OF THE PHYSIOTHERAPIST IN PALLIATIVE CARE

The impact caused by the increase in the world population has resulted in important issues for the health sector, especially due to the growing elderly population, which, in association with aging, has a higher prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), deaths due to NCDs are often preceded by a progressive decline in physical and nutritional conditions, emotional trauma, episodes of crises of physical and psychological symptoms, greater use of material and financial resources in health, the loss of functionality accompanies the trajectory of most diseases that threaten the continuity of life , adding to the profound physical, emotional and spiritual changes experienced by patients from diagnosis and even death. The physiotherapist has a comprehensive arsenal of techniques to add to the treatment of patients in palliative care, whether in improving symptoms or promoting quality of life for the patient. The guiding basis of this research was to identify the role of the physiotherapist within the context of Palliative Care, as well as to emphasize its importance within the multidisciplinary team.
