The interaction between Dentistry and Speech Therapy has been satisfactorily improved, based, among other aspects, on the shared interest in health and physiology of the stomatognathic system. The performance of both areas is closely related, since the intervention of one interferes and depends directly on the work of the other. The objective of this study was to discuss the importance of orthodontics in speech therapy for the care of infant patients. For the development of this literature review, a research was carried out in the databases: SciELO and PubMed/Medline, using the keywords "orthodontics", "child" and "speech therapy". The relationship between both areas is of paramount importance for the treatment and evaluation of the priority of interventions in each case, and the speech therapist can act simultaneously with the dentist, before, during or after orthodontic therapy. Therefore, it is concluded that the joint action of these specialties is fundamental in all senses, because interdisciplinary work provides stability and therapeutic success, promoting satisfaction and health to patients.
