This study sought to raise the mental health problems among caregivers of patients in the hospital environment. This is an integrative literature review, where the search was carried out in the Scielo and Lilacs databases, from October to November 2019. Articles from the years 2015 to 2019 were included. An instrument was developed to guide the data collection, consisting of: type of study, study objective, period, location, age group of the target audience, type of factors associated with caregivers' mental health. The data were organized in tables and analyzed with the relevant literature. 17 articles were found, however, only three articles met the criteria. It was identified that the profile of caregivers were informal caregivers. It was noticed, therefore, that the relationship to gender obtained a prevalence of female companions. It is concluded that caregivers need assistance so that their burdens are alleviated, since the act of assuming the condition of companion derives from feelings of affection, availability that refers to the need to be close to the patient, transmit support, facilitate his adaptation at the hospital.
