Basketball is a highly demanding sport that involves intense and brief efforts. For this reason, it has one of the highest injury rates in team sports. Athletes perform activities that place great demands on the musculoskeletal system, which favors the occurrence of injuries. The correct and early clinical and functional physical therapy of athletes allows the identification of individuals at risk of developing injuries. It also helps to determine the effective intervention to prevent injuries in athletes. In this matter, the present work makes a bibliographic review considering articles published in databases between 2010 and 2021. The research results show that physical therapists have the function of accompanying, assisting and collaborating in the training of athletes, working specifically in injury prevention.
