Introduction: Recognize the benefits of the orotracheal intubation method throughout the videolaryngoscopy technique compared to traditional laryngoscopy it’s important so it can optimized and provide a lower risk of mortality and morbidity to patients. Aim: The goal of this study was to identify the advantages of using a videolaryngoscope in adults who has the need to be intubated, when compared to the direct laryngoscopy. Methods: An integrative review was carried out through the Pubmed and Scielo database of articles published in English between the years 2014 and 2022, totaling fifteen different studies. Results and discussion: The videolaryngoscope is a rigid device that provides an indirect view of the airways, which helps to facilitate access in cases of difficult airway and also allows other professionals to learn while the operator performs the procedure. Several studies have shown that the videolaryngoscope is a beneficial instrument, especially in difficult intubations, as it provides better visualization of the airway structures, also avoiding possible complications such as trauma. Conclusions: It was found that videolaryngoscopy compared to direct laryngoscopy in a difficult airway proved to be superior, becoming the main alternative in unsuccessful intubations.
