The article presents a scientific research methodology in the area of Information Science, having the problem of water scarcity that occurred in the years 2016, 2020 and 2021 in the Sub-basin of the river burns feet that supplies the city of Tangará da Serra, State of Mato Grosso , Brazil, as a basis to contextualize the methodological basis of design Science and design Science Research for the field of Information Science as an adopted method, which proved to be more appropriate in the prescriptive mission of providing subsidies for access to information in an allied practical way innovative research methods. Within the line of research of Information Science, Smart Cities, such development is evolutionary and fundamental, presenting the epistemological-methodological approach Design Science Research (DSR) in the context of Informatics research in the area of Information Science applied in the area of smart cities to solve the problem with the production of artifact, respecting the fundamental concepts of the development of a robust and relevant research.
