Abstract

Prenatal care is a health strategy that provides pregnant women with follow-up during the gestational period in order to maintain an uneventful pregnancy. The man is not a very present figure in prenatal consultations, despite studies proving the benefits of accompanying the partner to the pregnant woman in consultations. In this way, the Ministry of Health in September 2017 developed the partner's prenatal strategy. The objective of the present study is to make a comparative epidemiological analysis between the number of consultations carried out by the Unified Health System for prenatal care of the partner and the prenatal consultations of the pregnant woman, in Brazil by regions during the period from October 2017 to October 2021. It is a cross-sectional, observational and retrospective study based on secondary and epidemiological data from the digital platform of DATASUS - Hospital Information System of the SUS (SIH/SUS) of the Ministry of Health. It is possible to notice that despite the great importance of men's participation in prenatal care, the number of consultations performed, even with a progressive increase, is still very low with a total of 44,233, compared to the number of prenatal consultations for pregnant women. which in this period was 29,158,779, and it is important to implement new incentive policies to increase adherence to this strategy.
