Abstract

The obesity is a multifactorial disease that is frequent in pets such as dogs, and has several causes, the main one being the animal's lifestyle. The principal factors identified that influence the occurrence of obesity are age and breed of the animal, sex, physical activity, diet, primary diseases, and medications. The disease can cause several comorbidities in the circulatory and respiratory system, as well as in the locomotor and endocrine systems, affecting the animal's well-being, quality of life, and longevity. In order to expose the main aspects and complications of obesity, questionnaires were applied by Google Forms in tutors of dogs from February to June 2021, totaling 102 answered forms.
