Grief is a process of adaptation after the loss of something or someone that was important to the person. During this process a new meaning for life needs to be discovered and built. This study aimed to understand the mourning in adolescence for the loss of parents having the film "Seven minutes after midnight" as an agent of reflection. The study was developed through a simplified film analysis and a review of the literature on the subject. The film portrays the story of a 13-year-old teenager who experiences the process of illness and death of his mother. The encounter with a monster tree, which invades his dreams and tells him stories, was what allowed the adolescent to contact his imaginary and face such experience. During the analysis it was possible to observe the process of anticipatory mourning that the adolescent experiences and their difficulties in facing their emotions and reactions. Important stages of the mourning process were identified and discussed facilitating the improvement of knowledge on the subject.
