EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF CONGENITAL SYPHILIS IN THE NORTHEAST REGION, 2009 TO 2018

Abstract

Objective: To trace the epidemiological profile of cases of congenital syphilis in the Northeast region from 2009 to 2018. Methods: This is a descriptive and retrospective cross-sectional epidemiological study, carried out with the data provided by the Information System for Diseases of the período of 2009 to 2018, referring to the Northeast region. Results: From 48.560 notification forms provided, it is clear that there is a preponderance by brown people (82,85%), with elementar education (67,71%, aged 20-29 years (53,04%), who live in the urban área (87,9%). Prenatal care was performed in 83,3%, however 63,68% was diagnosed on admission for delivery/curettage for abortion or after delivery. Only 3,68% had adequate treatment for the pregnant woman and 81% of the partners did not undergo tratment. Conclusion: Thus, it is understood that it is necessary to expand the coverage of primary care, as well as the implementation of strategies aimed at prevention, inspection, diagnosis and early treatment.
