ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAINING AND CHALLENGES OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN NURSING: AN INTEGRATIVE LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

The entrepreneurial practice in nursing has been highlighted as an essential strategy to promote innovation and expand professional practice possibilities in the current healthcare landscape. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze entrepreneurial training and the performance of the nurse entrepreneur in the health context, identifying characteristics, competencies, challenges, and contributions described in the scientific literature. This was an integrative literature review, and the selection of articles was carried out in July 2026 in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases, totaling 13 studies that met the inclusion criteria. The results revealed three thematic areas: “Perceptions, Characteristics, and Expansion of Entrepreneurship in Nursing”; “Entrepreneurial Tendencies and Professional Profiles”; and “Teaching Entrepreneurship in Nursing: Curricular Approaches and Training Strategies.” The analyzed studies showed that entrepreneurship is fundamental for expanding and valuing the nurse’s professional practice, although it still faces barriers such as lack of management preparation, financial difficulties, and gaps in academic training. Innovative models and the use of technologies demonstrated the potential of entrepreneurial practice; however, professionals and students need to strengthen competencies such as creativity, leadership, and risk‑taking ability. It is concluded, therefore, that investing in integrated and continuous entrepreneurial training is essential to promote autonomy, innovation, and sustainability in nursing practice.
