NURSING CARE DURING HUMANIZED CHILDBIRTH

Abstract

This study aimed to describe nursing care in the process of humanized childbirth. It is a narrative literature review conducted between February and March 2020, using the Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases, including LILACS and BDENF. Articles published between 2013 and 2019 were considered. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria and analyzing titles, abstracts, and full texts, six articles were selected for the final analysis. The results showed that nursing care plays a fundamental role in promoting humanized childbirth, valuing women's autonomy, respecting their individuality, the presence of a companion, and reducing unnecessary interventions. Benefits of this care model were also identified, such as better maternal recovery, strengthening the mother-baby bond, and reducing complications. However, challenges to its effective implementation remain, such as a lack of professional training and structural limitations in health services. It is concluded that the obstetric nurse plays an essential role in promoting humanized childbirth, acting in the welcoming, guidance and support of the parturient, contributing to safer, more respectful and woman-centered care.
