PREVALENCE OF INTESTINAL AND PSYCHIATRIC SYMPTOMS IN PATIENTS WITH ENDOMETRIOSIS: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

Abstract

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease associated with gastrointestinal and psychiatric symptoms, affecting women of reproductive age and significantly impacting quality of life. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of intestinal and psychiatric symptoms in women with endometriosis. This is a retrospective and descriptive study, based on the analysis of 225 medical records of patients treated at a private clinic in Cascavel (PR), Brazil, between January 2022 and August 2025. Intestinal manifestations, neuropsychiatric symptoms, and bowel function were evaluated. Intestinal symptoms were present in 95.6% of the patients, with a predominance of bloating, constipation, and pain during defecation. Anxiety and depressive symptoms coexisted in 67.6% of the patients. The findings suggest a strong association between intestinal alterations, clinical manifestations of chronic pain, and neuropsychiatric symptoms, reinforcing the multifactorial nature of endometriosis and the need for an interdisciplinary approach.
