CHALLENGES FOR NURSING IN PROVIDING HEALTHCARE TO WOMEN IN THE FACE OF OBSTETRIC VIOLENCE

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the challenges faced by nursing in providing healthcare to women in the context of obstetric violence. This is an integrative literature review conducted in six methodological stages, with data collection carried out in March 2025 through the Virtual Health Library (VHL), including the LILACS, MEDLINE, and BDENF databases. Standardized descriptors combined with the Boolean operator AND were used, initially resulting in 88 publications, of which 5 articles composed the final sample after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed that obstetric violence remains a reality in healthcare services, manifesting through dehumanized practices, unnecessary interventions, and disrespect for women's autonomy. The main challenges faced by nursing include lack of professional autonomy, institutional resistance to change, work overload, and insufficient technical training. It is concluded that nursing plays a fundamental role in preventing obstetric violence, and investment in continuing education, strengthening of public policies, and promotion of humanized practices are essential to ensure ethical, safe, and woman-centered care.
