Abstract

This experience report aimed to describe and analyze the activities carried out while monitoring the General Food Microbiology course with first-year students from the Technical Program in Agroindustry at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Bahia – Senhor do Bonfim Campus, within the Institutional Teaching Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBID). This descriptive report adopted a qualitative approach and was based on observations, class records, and pedagogical interventions conducted between March and June 2026. The activities included theoretical classes, laboratory practices, lesson planning with the teacher, and active methodologies, such as the “Hot Potato” and “Passa ou Repassa” dynamics, didactic modeling of bacteria, and an evaluation form created in Google Forms. Greater student participation was observed during the playful activities, as well as progress in handling materials and complying with biosafety standards, together with stronger connections between theory and practice. Comparing the use of the game before and after Gram staining suggested better consolidation of the content. The experience favored student learning and strengthened the scholarship holder’s planning, pedagogical mediation, and development of a professional teaching identity.
