THE ROCK ART IN THE AMAZON AND PIAUÍ: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Abstract

This paper aims to conduct a comparative study between Amazonian rock art and the rock art of the Serra da Capivara National Park, in the state of Piauí, aiming to identify similarities and differences between the symbolic systems and graphic presentation. The main justification for studying rock art in the Amazon region is the fact that it constitutes a rich symbolic expression that reflects the sociocultural diversity of the communities that inhabited this region. This research was carried out using a qualitative approach and bibliographic and documentary analysis methods, in order to investigate the symbolic systems and sociocultural manifestations present in the rock art of the Amazon and Serra da Capivara areas.
