COMPREHENSIVE CARE FOR TRAUMA-ORTHOPEDIC PATIENTS: AN INTEGRATIVE LITERATURE REVIEW ON SOCIAL WORK PRACTICES IN HOSPITAL HEALTHCARE

Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the practices of Social Work in response to needs identified while attending to hospitalized trauma-orthopedic patients, viewed through the lens of the principle of comprehensive health care. This is an exploratory and descriptive integrative literature review based on the method of historical-dialectical materialism. The research search was conducted using the SciELO, LILACS, BVS, and BASE databases, covering the period from 2015 to 2025, resulting in five studies selected for the final sample. Analysis of the articles revealed that Social Work practices in the hospital setting are shaped by the mediation of social rights, coordination with the multidisciplinary team, and the identification of social determinants and conditioning factors intertwined with the health-illness process, as well as by the institutional and structural limits and challenges that create tension regarding the implementation of the profession's ethical-political project within hospital health settings.
