Abstract

The incorporation of digital technologies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has promoted significant advances in the planning and execution of surgical procedures. Tools such as cone-beam computed tomography, intraoral scanning, three-dimensional software, 3D printing, and virtually guided surgery provide greater predictability, precision, and clinical safety. The objective of this study was to review the scientific literature on the advances in digital planning in oral and maxillofacial surgery, highlighting its applications, benefits, and limitations. This is a literature review conducted in the PubMed and SciELO databases, using scientific articles published in Portuguese and English. The results demonstrated that virtual planning improves surgical precision, reduces operative time, and favors better functional and aesthetic results. In addition, there was a growing use of Artificial Intelligence and three-dimensional biomodels in therapeutic individualization. However, factors such as high technological cost and the need for professional training still represent important limitations. It is concluded that digital planning represents an important evolution in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, contributing to safer, more predictable and efficient treatments.
