The occupation of risk zones in the municipality of Uíge has grown in the last two decades due to rural exodus, lack of housing and absence of urban planning. This article aims to analyze the socio-environmental impacts of constructions on slopes, banks of the Uíge River and flood areas in the city of Uíge and propose mitigation strategies. The methodology was based on bibliographic review, analysis of reports from the Provincial Civil Protection and Fire Service of Uíge and field observation in the Papelão, Gai and Candombe Velho neighborhoods. It is concluded that disasters in Uíge are socio-environmental and that prevention requires public housing policies, risk mapping, environmental education and community participation.
