EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT AND SELF-CARE IN ONCOLOGY VIA THE ONCOCARE APPLICATION

Abstract

This article sought to describe the development and applicability of ONcoCare, a digital educational technology designed to promote safe aesthetic care and self-care in oncology. This methodological study was based on the Brazilian National Policy for Cancer Prevention and Control and the Contextualized Instructional Design framework. Initially, a narrative literature review was conducted to identify educational needs related to aesthetic care for oncology patients and healthcare professionals. ONcoCare was developed as a Progressive Web Application (PWA) using React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and Shadcn/UI. The findings revealed a scarcity of educational resources addressing aesthetic care in oncology, supporting the development of ONcoCare as a platform that provides scientific information on the management of treatment-related aesthetic adverse effects, self-care practices, and the safe use of cosmetic products. The platform includes dedicated sections for healthcare professionals and patients, facilitating access to reliable information, continuing education, and user empowerment. It is concluded that ONcoCare has the potential to strengthen educational and healthcare practices in oncology through a humanized, evidence-based approach, although its preliminary validation is still in progress.
