Abstract

Chronic neck pain is one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorders in the population and is associated with persistent pain, functional limitations, and reduced quality of life. In this context, myofascial release has been widely used in physiotherapy as a therapeutic resource for the treatment. This study aimed to analyze the effects of myofascial release on the functionality of individuals with chronic neck pain through a literature review. The methodology consisted of a bibliographic search conducted in the SciELO, PubMed, PEDro, and Google Scholar databases using descriptors related to myofascial release, chronic neck pain, cervical pain, and functionality. Articles published between 2021 and 2026 that addressed the effects of the technique on pain, cervical mobility, functionality, and quality of life were included. The results showed that myofascial release promotes pain reduction, improvement in cervical range of motion, reduction of tissue restrictions, and enhancement of functional capacity. Furthermore, when combined with other physiotherapeutic interventions, it demonstrated even more significant benefits. It was concluded that myofascial release is an effective strategy for the treatment of chronic neck pain, contributing to improved functionality and quality of life, although further studies are needed to strengthen the current scientific evidence.
