Abstract

Gestational hypertensive syndromes are significant causes of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, requiring qualified monitoring during prenatal care. In this context, nurses play a fundamental role in primary health care. Objective: To describe the role of nurses in managing hypertensive syndromes during pregnancy within the context of primary care. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review, qualitative and descriptive in nature, conducted in the SciELO, PubMed/MEDLINE, and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases, using the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): nursing care, prenatal care, primary prevention, and pregnancy-induced hypertension. Articles published between 2021 and 2025, available in full text in Portuguese and English, were included. Conclusion: The results showed that the nurse's role in prenatal care contributes to the reduction of maternal-fetal complications through health education, risk stratification, clinical monitoring, and the promotion of comprehensive and humanized care.
