Abstract

Introduction: Hypertensive syndromes of pregnancy represent one of the main causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, constituting a significant public health problem. They include gestational hypertension, chronic hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, and HELLP syndrome, conditions that, although related, have their own characteristics and different levels of severity. Early identification and appropriate management of these complications are fundamental for reducing risks and promoting maternal-fetal health. Objective: This study aims to analyze the role of nurses in the prenatal care of pregnant women with hypertensive syndromes, highlighting their contributions to the prevention of maternal and perinatal complications. Method: This is an integrative literature review, conducted in the BVS, SciELO, and PubMed databases, encompassing publications from 2020 to 2025, available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Dissertations, editorials, reviews, and theses were excluded. The descriptors "Nurse's Role," "Maternal and Perinatal Complications," and "Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy" were used, combined using the Boolean operators AND and OR, in order to broaden the search for publications related to the topic. Results: The results indicate the strategic role of nurses in prenatal care, highlighting practices aimed at preventing maternal and perinatal complications, early identification of risk factors, and adequate clinical monitoring of pregnant women. Conclusion: Nurses play a fundamental role in prenatal care, contributing to the prevention of maternal and perinatal complications through the early identification of risk factors, adequate clinical monitoring, and the implementation of effective evidence-based interventions.
