NURSING CARE IN RENAL TRANSPLANTATION: AN EXPERIENCE REPORT

Abstract

 This paper presents in the experience report written by a ninth-period nursing student during the Supervised Curricular Internship I, conducted in the renal transplant unit. The internship covered the entire process, from preoperative to postoperative care, including activities such as checking and helping in surgical protocols. One of the most significant aspects of this experience was the student’s contact with plasmapheresis therapy. Previously unfamiliar, this procedure enabled effective learning related to the preparation of solutions, equipment organization, identification of signs and symptoms presented by the patient, and right nursing interventions. The experience contributed to the development of a critical and humanized perspective on renal patient care. Additionally, it strengthened technical skills, empathy, and professional autonomy. The internship proved to be a transformative experience, reinforcing the student’s desire to work in the field of nephrology and transplantation.
