Abstract

Polytrauma patients present with multiple severe injuries that compromise different organ systems, requiring immediate and specialized care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The objective of this study is to describe the role of the nursing team in the care of these patients, following the standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT). This is a literature review, with a search in scientific databases, selecting articles published between 2023 and 2026. The results show that nursing plays a fundamental role in the initial assessment, continuous monitoring, implementation of technical and humanized care, prevention of complications, and integration with the multidisciplinary team. It is concluded that evidence-based practice, combined with technical knowledge and communication skills, is essential to ensure the safety and recovery of polytrauma patients in the ICU.
