The objective of this study was to analyze, in the scientific literature, the role of the nursing team in obstetric emergencies, identifying the main difficulties that influence the quality and safety of the care provided. This is a literature review with a qualitative and descriptive approach, conducted in August 2025. The search was carried out in the SciELO, PubMed, and BVS databases, including 26 studies published between 2021 and 2025 that address obstetric emergencies and the role of the nursing team. The findings highlight hypertensive, hemorrhagic, and infectious syndromes as the main causes of obstetric emergencies, as well as their role in the high rates of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Factors such as limited resources, work overload, communication failures, and the lack of standardized protocols were identified as elements that compromise the quality of care. In contrast, practical training, adherence to appropriate clinical protocols, and interdisciplinary communication contribute to safer and more humanized care. In conclusion, it is necessary to improve structural conditions and strengthen and support the nursing team in order to ensure efficient, safe, and patient-centered obstetric emergency care.
