of contemporary aesthetic standards and body modification strategies on adolescents' self-esteem, considering the influence of psychological and sociocultural factors during a critical developmental period. This is a narrative literature review based on scientific articles published in recent years in national and international databases, including studies on self-esteem, body image, adolescence, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions. The results indicate that the internalization of idealized body standards is associated with the development of dysfunctional beliefs related to self-worth and self-image, contributing to high levels of body dissatisfaction. It was also observed that the use of external weight control strategies, especially when carried out without proper clinical indication and without psychological support, tends to reinforce these beliefs without promoting lasting cognitive changes. It is concluded that psychological interventions, particularly those based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, are essential to promote cognitive restructuring, strengthen self-esteem, and foster a healthier relationship with the body.
