Abstract

This study conducted a comparative analysis of the performance of approximately 1,300 public lighting luminaires, considering the criteria established by the Brazilian standards NBR 5101:2018 and NBR 5101:2024. To this end, more than 37,500 simulations were carried out using Dialux® software, based on IES photometric files from luminaires certified by INMETRO and listed by PROCEL. The modeling included five typical installation configurations, based on the reference layouts defined in the 2018 version of the standard. From the results obtained, it was possible to identify the luminaires with the best performance in each analyzed scenario, as well as to highlight the main updates introduced in the 2024 revision, such as the establishment of limits for correlated color temperature, stricter control of light pollution, and restrictions on installation angles. Overall, the findings indicate significant impacts on ongoing projects and provide technical support for the planning of future public lighting solutions.
