This article aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of sepsis in the municipality of Cascavel, Paraná, Brazil, from 2019 to 2024, based on secondary data from the Hospital Information System of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SIH/DATASUS), considering its relevance as a public health problem with high morbidity, mortality, and economic impact. This is a descriptive, retrospective, and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, in which the variables analyzed included sex, age group, number of hospitalizations, average length of hospital stay, number of deaths, and hospitalization costs related to sepsis. During the study period, 5,057 hospitalizations were recorded, with a predominance of males (53.7%) and a higher concentration among individuals aged 60 years or older, especially in the 70–79 and 80 years or older age groups. The average length of hospital stay was 10.3 days, with a decreasing trend over time. A total of 1,875 deaths were recorded, with higher lethality among elderly patients, highlighting the severity of the condition in this population. Total hospitalization costs reached R$ 24,081,244.74, mainly concentrated in older age groups. It is concluded that sepsis presents high incidence, mortality, and economic impact in the municipality, particularly among the elderly, reinforcing the need for strategies focused on early diagnosis, effective clinical management, and strengthening health surveillance actions.
