Introduction. This study aimed to identify and analyze institutional initiatives at the Federal University of Minas Gerais focused on promoting university students’ mental health. Methods. This is a descriptive documentary study based on the analysis of institutional documents and information on services, programs, and extension projects. Results. The investigation identified significant advances over the past decade, including the development of Mental Health Policy principles, the structuring of support centers, the availability of specialized care channels, and the implementation of programs aimed at student retention. Discussion. The analysis revealed unequal distribution of support services across academic units and a predominance of extension projects with educational and cultural focus. In summary, UFMG has acted significantly in promoting student mental health, but there is a need to strengthen institutional management, expand equitable access, and integrate services in an articulated and coordinated manner.
