CHARACTERISTICS AND CHALLENGES OF TOURIST POLICING IN THE STATE OF AMAZONAS

Abstract

This article analyzes the characteristics and challenges of tourist policing in the state of Amazonas, considering its territorial, social, and institutional specificities. The study aims to identify the main obstacles to the implementation of this type of policing as a public security policy, as well as to understand its role in strengthening regional tourism activity. To this end, a qualitative methodological approach was adopted, based on bibliographic review and document analysis, exploring concepts of public security, tourism, and specialized policing. The results indicate that tourist policing in Amazonas presents particularities related to its vast territorial extension, logistical difficulties, limited human and material resources, and the need for specific training of officers, including language proficiency and preventive action. Furthermore, the importance of integrating security and tourism policies to enhance the effectiveness of actions was highlighted. It is concluded that, despite the challenges, strengthening tourist policing is essential to ensure a safe environment, contribute to socioeconomic development, and promote the image of Amazonas as a safe tourist destination.
