This study analyzes the trajectory and organizational conditions of recyclable material collectors in the municipality of Santa Helena, Paraná, highlighting their importance in solid waste management. The objective is to describe the activities and organizational development of the recycling cooperative, highlighting the social, environmental, and institutional advances and improvements related to the activities of recyclable material collectors. The analysis also points to the need to create a regional network of cooperatives, promoting greater autonomy, exchange of experiences, and strengthening of the sector. The research reveals that, since its formation, the local cooperative, which eventually became an association, has undergone processes marked by the dedication of its members and strong partnerships with public authorities and other agents, factors that have contributed to its growth and recognition. In addition, the study shows that the association of waste pickers has led to an increase in the recycling rate, improvements in working conditions, and greater social visibility, although it still depends on technical and financial support from the city government, which limits its autonomy. Thus, the study reinforces the importance of collective organization for the valorization of waste pickers and the sustainability of waste management in the region.
