It is a fact that human social relations have undergone substantial changes in the 21st century. One of the main explanations for these transformations is, without a doubt, the advent of digital culture, represented by the internet and, especially, by the popularization of social communication networks such as Instagram, Facebook, X, and TikTok. Living in a virtual world, human beings begin to face a problem that is characteristic of this space: cancel culture. In order to understand how the dynamics of online cancellation operate, this article develops a contemporary analysis of how social networks are used by modern individuals. Authors such as Adorno and Horkheimer (1985), Bauman (2001), Foucault (1987), Lanier (2010), and Popper (2012) were used to provide the theoretical foundation for this work.
