Chronic wounds represent a significant public health problem due to their prolonged healing time and the physical, emotional, and social impacts they have on patients. In this context, ozone therapy has been used as a complementary therapy in the treatment of these lesions due to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue regeneration-stimulating properties. The present study aimed to analyze the scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of ozone therapy in the healing of chronic wounds. This is an integrative review of the literature, conducted through a search of the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), PubMed/MEDLINE, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), and Google Scholar, using the descriptors “ozone therapy,” “chronic wounds,” and “healing,” combined with the Boolean operators AND and OR. Articles published in Portuguese and English, available in full and related to the clinical application of the therapy, were included. After the selection process, 10 studies comprised the final sample. The results showed a reduction in microbial load, improved tissue oxygenation, and acceleration of the healing process. It is concluded that ozone therapy has promising therapeutic potential in the treatment of chronic wounds, although studies with greater methodological rigor ded to consolidate its clinical applicability.
