This article analyzes the performance of the Military Police of the State of Amazonas (PMAM) in combating environmental crimes, from the perspective of the challenges posed by its organizational structure, geographical peculiarities, and the social complexity of the Amazon. The objective is to discuss the importance of the Environmental Policing Battalion (BPAmb) as an implementing agent of national environmental policy. The methodology consisted of bibliographic research and documentary analysis of current regulations and policing doctrines. The results point to the need for new technologies and the strengthening of specialized policing, especially river patrols, to contain the advance of environmental crimes and the use of rivers as routes for illicit activities. It concludes that integrated strategic planning between federal entities and the strengthening of the environmental battalion is imperative for the preservation of the biome and the safety of the Amazonian population.
