Abstract

The digital book "The Relevance of the Nursing Code of Ethics for the Professional Category" was developed with the goal of helping healthcare professionals—nurses, nursing technicians, nursing assistants, midwives, and nursing attendants—to better understand the importance of knowing the code of ethics for this category, enabling them to apply this knowledge in their daily work. The purpose of this work is to present a broad and well-founded view of how the nursing code of ethics contributes to the better conduct of these professionals, thus avoiding errors and reckless actions during their professional practice.

The Nursing Code of Ethics is an important instrument of conduct that guides the professional practices of the nursing class so that professionals can act within the bounds of the law and thus provide the best possible care. In Chapter 1, entitled The Nursing Code of Ethics and its Creation, the work addresses how the first nursing code of ethics promoted by the Brazilian Nursing Association (ABEN) in 1958 came about. It also shows that in 2017, COFEN Resolution 564/2017 was created and approved, which approved the new nursing code of ethics used today.

Chapter 2, entitled The Nursing Code of Ethics and Your Rights, shows us what rights each professional category has regarding their conduct, whether nurse, nursing technician, midwife, or nursing assistant.
Chapter 3, The Nursing Code of Ethics and Your Obligations, shows the importance of nursing professionals strictly following their code of ethics, as it provides more security, autonomy, and assistance in decision-making. It reveals what duties nursing professionals should have and what to do to avoid punishment.
Chapter 4, "The Nursing Code of Ethics and Its Penalties," addresses the penalties that all nursing professionals may face if they disregard this code. It discusses the types of penalties that are applied and what is done with professionals if they are punished.
Throughout the work, the reader will find a solid theoretical approach, based on recent research. The goal is to offer nursing professionals rich and inspiring material that can be used as a reference in their daily practices, thus enabling them to feel safer and more free when providing care.
Finally, "The Relevance of the Nursing Code of Ethics for the Professional Category" reinforces the idea that the nursing code of ethics is an important instrument of conduct for the professional practices of the nursing class, so that these professionals can provide care free from harm and risks to patients in their daily actions, and thus avoid severe penalties. It is hoped that this work will inspire nursing professionals to improve their practices, making the care they provide a pleasant and easy experience. I wish you all a great read.

Sincerely,
Jardânya Rychellys da Rocha Honório Nascimento
