EVALUATION OF THE DEVELOPMENT PLAN IN AN AMAZONIAN RURAL ASSOCIATION: A CASE STUDY IN ITACOATIARA - AM

Abstract

Rural producer associations in the Amazon face persistent challenges related to institutional management, inadequate infrastructure, and geographic isolation, which constrain their capacity for sustainable development. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of the implementation of an Institutional Development Plan (IDP) in the Rural Producers' Association of the Corpo de Cristo Community at Lago do Agostinho, located in the municipality of Itacoatiara, Amazonas, Brazil, between 2023 and September 2025. The research employed a longitudinal mixed-methods case study design, combining documentary analysis, a diagnostic survey, semi-structured interviews with association leaders and representatives of the supporting institution, and both quantitative and qualitative data analyses. The findings revealed significant improvements in institutional governance, including enhanced document management and greater regularity of organizational meetings; an increase in cassava flour production from 7 to 20 metric tons; an approximately 30% gain in productive efficiency; improvements in water supply infrastructure and logistics; and strengthened managerial capacities among association members through training activities and continuous technical support. The study concludes that the Institutional Development Plan, when combined with structured external funding and ongoing mentoring, constitutes an effective instrument for organizational strengthening, enhancing management capacity, productive sustainability, and the institutional autonomy of Amazonian rural associations, thereby contributing to sustainable rural development.
