Abstract

This article aimed to examine, based on recent literature, the application of placenta-derived polylaminin in functional recovery after cervical spinal cord injury. It is a narrative review, in which 11 studies relevant to the topic were selected. In general, the findings show that biomolecules of placental origin, especially polylaminin, favor the formation of a microenvironment conducive to neural repair, contributing to regenerative processes in the injured spinal cord tissue. In this context, investigations conducted in Brazil over the last few decades have been crucial in consolidating this biomaterial as an innovative alternative in the field of neuroregeneration. Thus, it is concluded that its application represents a promising strategy, expanding therapeutic perspectives for the treatment of spinal cord injury.
