This scientific article proposes to analyze the strategic and operational performance of the Environmental Policing Command (CPAmb) of the Amazonas Military Police in combating illegal mining in the Madeira River region. Mining activity, deeply rooted in Amazonian history, has evolved into a high-tech practice with great destructive power, driven by the appreciation of gold and the fragility of inspection in remote areas. Through qualitative and bibliographic research, the study examines the positive points of police intervention, such as the dismantling of complex logistical chains and the immediate protection of river ecosystems against mercury contamination. In contrast, structural challenges, the recurrence of the activity, and the socioeconomic complexity involving riverside communities are discussed. It is concluded that the repressive presence of the CPAmb is vital for environmental sovereignty, but its long-term effectiveness is intrinsically linked to the implementation of integrated public policies that promote sustainable development and offer viable economic alternatives, transforming the local reality beyond police action.
