Abstract

Mirror neurons represent one of the main neurobiological foundations of learning through observation, imitation, and interpretation of actions, constituting a central mechanism for the development of clinical skills in areas that require psychomotor proficiency and complex decision-making. In veterinary anesthesiology, such skills are essential given the high technical demands and the need for rapid responses in critical scenarios. This article analyzes the physiological basis of the mirror neuron system, its relationship with cognitive, motor, and socio-emotional processes, and discusses how this knowledge can strengthen pedagogical strategies adopted in the teaching of anesthesiology. Based on a theoretical review and integration with educational methodologies applied to Veterinary Medicine, it is demonstrated that structured observation, realistic simulation, supervised practical teaching, and active methodologies enhance the activation of mirror circuits, favoring the acquisition of technical skills, emotional regulation, and teamwork. It concludes that the conscious incorporation of these neurobiological mechanisms into the curriculum design can optimize the training of veterinary anesthesiologists, promoting more efficient, safe, and integrated learning.
