Abstract

This article aims to analyze the history of social security and social rights enshrined in the 1988 Federal Constitution, as well as the influence of human rights treaties and the sustainable development of nations. The current Federal Constitution included work and social security as social rights within the fundamental rights and guarantees of all individuals; it also equalized the treatment of urban and rural workers. Therefore, it is important to understand the historical context that led to the formation of the current Federal Constitution and the set of sub-constitutional laws concerning social security and the social protection of workers. This article was developed between July and December, and is a qualitative research study, as it sought to understand and interpret the history of social rights, social security, and its connection to human rights and the objectives for the sustainable development of nations. In terms of its nature, the research is clearly classified as bibliographic and documentary, since it involved the analysis of reference authors in the field of labor and social security law, as well as legal doctrines and informative materials. Regarding the documentary research, scientific articles, dissertations and theses, law manuals, the entire set of repealed and current laws relevant to the present theme, and also international documents such as treaties and conventions on human rights and others dealing with the right to work, as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development guidelines, were analyzed. It is concluded that workers' social rights are strongly linked to human rights and also to the objectives of sustainable development of nations, and aim to guarantee that all individuals are treated with dignity and humanity in any social relationship.
