This article proposes a reflection on the role of the psychologist in therapeutic communities, spaces designed for the recovery of people with disorders related to the use of psychoactive substances, as well as reporting the observations made during the Supervised Basic Internship IV, of the 6th semester of the Psychology undergraduate program at the Centro Universitário do Paraná - Uniensino, totaling 20 hours of internship for each student. Based on scientific references and public mental health policies, the study sought to understand how psychological work contributes to the rehabilitation and social reintegration of those in treatment. Chemical dependency is a biopsychosocial phenomenon that requires integrated and humanized approaches. In this context, the psychologist acts as a mediator between the individual and their own history, promoting self-knowledge, strengthening bonds, and rebuilding self-esteem. Empathetic acceptance and active listening emerge as powerful tools for transformation. The article highlights the importance of interdisciplinary work, professional ethics, and attention to the wholeness of the human being, considering biological, social, affective, and spiritual dimensions.
