This article has as its theme the importance of games and games with children. It emphasizes playing in the development and learning of early childhood education, with the aim of knowing about the meaning of playing, as well as conceptualizing the main terms used to designate the act of playing. It is also essential to understand playfulness, through which the child communicates with himself and the world, accepts the existence of others, establishes social relationships, builds knowledge, develops fully, and also the advantages that playing favors in children's teaching and learning. It is extremely important to understand and encourage children's creative capacity, as this is one of the ways of relating and recreating the world, within the perspective of child logic. Therefore, to carry out this work, bibliographic research was used, based on reflection and reading of books, articles, magazines and websites, as well as research by authors referring to this theme. There is an understanding that playing is part of children's experiences, however what is expected to be highlighted is the intellectual and cognitive development that occurs with children when they play, and that games are of paramount importance at school, as the teacher using this resource can develop students' knowledge of the world, socialization and motor stimulation.
